News Release

Below is a writing sample from my coursework:

The Unfunny Consequences of a Misleading Survey Targeting Clowns

Sample

What I did

During my coursework at the UNC Hussman School of Media and Journalism, I took a public relations writing class. In the class, I had to write a fictitious news release based off the information from a prompt assigned by the professor. Below is the professor's exact prompt. To read the news release, please click the button under the prompt.

This is what you know for this assignment:
  • You work for the Clown Cars of America Association, the CCAA
  • The survey was random, not scientific.
  • Three-year-olds are cute but they aren’t the most reliable witnesses.
  • The clown business has been under pressure ever since Stephen King published It.
  • Your client thinks picking on clowns is no laughing matter.
  • You can also do your own research. How many clowns are there? What do they earn? Are they being unfairly demonized?
